An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat and tighten the underlying tissue to improve the appearance of the upper arms, from the armpit to the elbow.
Depending on the amount of laxity, incisions may be short (limited/mini) or extended. Liposuction is sometimes combined with the procedure for better contouring. You’ll also hear it called arm lift surgery, arm tuck, or arm loose skin removal.
If you have loose and stretchy skin over your upper arms, and exercising isn’t going to tighten it back up, it’s probably from true skin laxity (looseness) and not just from excess fat.
Common causes include age, significant weight loss, genetics, and the natural loss of elasticity that happens over time. Exercise can improve muscle tone with strength training, but no amount of weight training is going to tighten up overstretched skin. Surgery is often the best answer when skin laxity is moderate to severe.
Usually performed under general anaesthesia; many cases take about 1.5–2 hours.
For noticeable looseness, the standard scar runs along the inner/posterior arm from the axilla (armpit) toward the elbow, placed where it hides best at rest. For massive weight loss, the incision can extend onto the lateral chest.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue are tailored; liposuction may be added for shape.
Wounds are closed in layers; a compression garment helps reduce swelling and supports the new contour.
Expect a thin line along the inner/posterior arm. It’s less visible with arms at your sides and more visible when you lift them. Scars soften and lighten over 9–12 months (sometimes longer). But remember that they won’t vanish entirely. Proper post-care, silicone taping, and sun protection help reduce the scarring. The better it heals, the better it looks.
Everyone heals at their own pace, so follow your surgeon’s specific instructions.
All surgery carries risk. Minor wound-healing issues following an arm lift procedure are fairly common. Major complications following an arm lift are rare.
Once your swelling goes down, you will be able to see a more defined contour of your arms. These results will last you if you maintain your weight and avoid the sun on the scars.
In Pune, arm lift surgery typically falls in the ₹1,00,000–₹1,50,000 range, depending on facility, anaesthesia, complexity, and your care plan. Treat this as a rough estimate. Remember that your in-person consultation will give you an exact quote.
Radiofrequency microneedling, ultrasound, and other energy-based devices can modestly tighten mild laxity by stimulating collagen over a series of sessions. However, these procedures can’t remove significant extra skin.
Liposuction, on the other hand, addresses fat, not skin. So in lax arms, it’s often paired with skin excision. If your main issue is excess skin, brachioplasty is the right solution.
If arm workouts can’t fix the overhang, arm surgery is the straight path to tighter, cleaner arm contours. Non-surgical tech can help mild laxity, but arm lift surgery remains the go-to for true excess skin. A focused exam and honest discussion with your surgeon will make the decision simple.
